10DLC Campaigns

Originally, 10DLC is an abbreviation for a 10-digit long code phone number, i.e. a standard phone number in USA and Canada with a 3-digit area code and 7-digit local phone number. However, currently 10DLC is mainly referred to regulations applied to sending messages over a regular 10-digit long phone number. In order to use a phone number for messaging in the USA, a partner is required to register their company with the Campaign Registry and create a 10DLC campaign. As soon as the company and the 10DLC campaign are approved, the partner can associate their phone number with their campaign and start messaging to their customer base.

In addition to registration requirements, 10DLC campaigns are subject to carrier-specific throughput limits. These limits are enforced automatically during message processing to prevent carrier-level blocking.

The limits:

  • Are defined per carrier.
  • Are based on message segments, not API requests.
  • May apply either per campaign or per brand.
  • Apply to A2P campaigns only.

Current carrier-specific behavior:

  • AT&T (ATT) — message segments per minute per campaign.
  • T-Mobile (TMO) — daily segment limit per brand.
  • Verizon (VZN) — no throttling enforced.
